USA Bobsled Selection Races Conclude

LAKE PLACID, NY (November 9, 2024) - The USA Bobsled Selection Races took place today. Originally slated for Nov 8-9, the race schedule was modified to allow more time to prepare the ice with last week’s high temperatures affecting the ice.
The women’s races were comprised of a one-heat race of Monobob and a one-heat race of 2-Woman. Lauren Brzozowski and Sylvia Hoffman competed. In the Monobob race, Hoffman took first with a one-run time of 1.02.80 and Brzozowski took second with a time of 1:02.85. In the 2-Woman competition, Hoffman and Kristen Brown took the top spot with a 59.60 run, and Brzozowski and Lolo Jones finished second with a 1.00.76 run.
On the men’s side, the competition was comprised of two one-heat competitions of 2-Man Bobsled. In the first race, Frankie Del Duca competed alongside rookie brakeman Dylan Gilbert, placing first with a time of 57.61. Kris Horn and Hunter Powell took second with a time of 57.89, followed by Geoff Gadbois and Boone Niederhofer in third with a time of 58.41, Grady Mercer and Bryan Sosoo’s time of 59.63 while Shane Fisher and Brandon Jetter slid to the finish with a time of 59.67. Dave Nicholls slid with Chase Lasater but unfortunately experienced a crash on the track. In the second one-heat race, Del Duca and Carsten Viserring placed first with a time of 57.52, followed by Horn and Powell’s time of 58.15, Mercer and Sosoo’s time of 59.42 and Fisher and Jetter’s time of 59.83.
Kaysha Love, Kaillie Humphries and Elana Mayers-Taylor all had byes through selection races and were forerunners for the races today.
