Friends, Fun, and Food in Mooresville, NC

This month, our Premier Technology Partner, deBotech Inc., showcased their support for USABS in a big way at Mooresville's annual "Bands, Brews, and BBQ" event. As the proud manufacturers of our sleds right here in the USA, deBotech continues to go above and beyond in its commitment to our team.

The highlight of the event was the unveiling of "MUSA" (Made in the USA), a special beer created in collaboration with Ghostface Brewery. In a generous move, deBotech chose USABS as the beneficiary of all proceeds from MUSA sales during the event.

Our local athletes were thrilled to join in the festivities, engaging with the community by tossing t-shirts to the crowd, educating attendees about our sports, and even judging the annual BBQ competition. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our supporters and share our passion for bobsled and skeleton.

We're incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from deBotech and the town of Mooresville, North Carolina. Their dedication to American manufacturing and their commitment to our team exemplify the spirit of partnership that drives us forward.

USABS Legends Make Their Return to Lake Placid

The pioneering USA women's Bobsled team from the mid-1990s is set to reconvene in Lake Placid, offering an unparalleled opportunity for emerging female bobsledders to connect with these trailblazers. Alex Allred, Jill Bakken Linder, Cristina Dolan, Nancy Lang Houghton, Laurie Miller, Elena Primerano Wise, Liz Parr-Smestad, Michelle Powe, and Christine Spiezio will revisit the Olympic Training Center and Mt. Hoevenberg Olympic Bobsled Run, where their journey began.

USA Bobsled Coach Tuffy Latour, instrumental in organizing the reunion, reflects: “I was lucky to be an athlete back then, helping them take their first rides down the old Lake Placid track in February 1994. The men’s bobsled team included them in our workouts at the Olympic Training Center, both in the weight room and the gym. Later, in the summer of 1999, I became one of the coaches for the women’s team, with Bill Tavares as the head coach. It’s important to note that the women’s program wasn’t funded initially until it became an Olympic sport, so these athletes had to secure personal sponsorships to travel to Europe. Eventually, some team sponsors came on board,”

Women's Bobsled boasts a rich history dating back to the 1929-1930 season when Lake Placid native Louise Carsten became one of America's first female bobsledders. Marion Clark claimed the Junior Two-Man Bobsled National Championship in 1934, followed by Katherine Dewey's triumph in the 1940 National Championships' Four-Man Bobsled event. Tragically, women were barred from the sport in December 1940. A brief resurgence in the early to mid-1980s saw women attempt to form a team, but it wasn't until the mid-90s that this new cohort ignited a movement, paving the way for Team USA's women's bobsled success and the sport's global expansion.
